Methodist Hospital Union County Rehabilitation Services

"I came around the curve," recalls "Hattie O'Nan," and there was a car driving right in the middle of my lane. The resulting head-on collision crushed both legs and broke an arm. After multiple surgeries out of state, Hattie was helpless - "like a baby," she says - and faced with the prospect of a nursing home. That's when she found out about a special program at Methodist Hospital Union County that made all the difference in the world.

Medicare calls it the "swing bed" program. It allows patients like her to stay with us for an extended period and receive intensive therapy daily. "That way, they could take care of me and I could get everything I needed right here," she says. "They got me back on my feet where I could be independent again. That means a lot."

Hattie is quick to praise the skill, empathy and dedication of our Director of Physical Therapy John Deibler, who even personally took the time onThanksgiving Day to transport her to her home and back.

"Now how many people would do that for you?" she smiles. "And the little nurses treated me like royalty. I could never have any better treatment then I had here."
